About the Artist
Joanne Smith grew up on Eastern Long Island. Surrounded by ocean, bays, lakes and the L.I. Sound, her love of nature and animals grew with her. She studied photography and worked for local newspapers and art/photography studios. On a sailing journey with her husband, they spotted Pine Island, and she declared one day they would live there--he laughed. A few years passed but the statement came true. Smith found the island to be a very creative outlet for her photography and started selling her work at Wildchild Art Gallery in Matlacha.
